Self Treatment Class Series
1. Introduction to John Barnes' Myofascial Release®
This class is designed to help you understand your fascial system and why this total body system is so very important to you. You will be guided through the fascial system in a way that will help you to see what fascia looks like, how it functions, and how to care for it.
2. Myofascial Stretching
This class will change the way that you view stretching. It will teach you how to stretch in a more gentle, knowledgeable, and intuitive way. You will learn to stretch with confidence and intention.
3. On the ball and other MFR tools
This class is designed to teach you how to use specific tools that can help enhance your self Myofascial Release home treatment program.
4. All together now
This class will pull together all of the information from the previous three classes and help you to experience what your daily home exercise program can look and feel like.
Workshop Details
After completing this series of classes one time, you will have all of the tools and knowledge about the fascial system and how best to take care of your body on your own at home. You are always welcome to bring a friend or loved one and to repeat classes. Repetition allows for deeper understanding and is always recommended.

Fusion
Classes
Our Fusion Classes are designed to be like no other class you have ever taken before. We have taken all the key ingredients from our Self Treatment Class Series and fused them together to give you a one-hour experience of self-treatment and healing at its finest. Your body will be skillfully guided by a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant who is highly trained in the human body and the very best way to care for it. Your mind/body/spirit complex will be respected as you are gently cared for on the path to becoming a better you. So, whether you are an elite Olympic athlete, or someone who has never purposefully engaged in any type of fitness activity, you will be able to safely and effectively attend and participate in these classes. If you know that you need more mindfulness and a deeper connection with your body, if you feel like your body is in chaos from the world around you, if you feel like you have tried everything else and are looking for something new, if you are smart enough to know that jumping straight into any regular exercise or fitness class is not right for your body, if your current exercise program often includes pain or if you simply want more peace and calm in your life, then these classes are just for you. These classes can be the springboard for allowing you the confidence to attend other exercise classes in your community, and other athletic or physical activities in your everyday life.
Physical Fitness is a state of health and wellbeing that everyone deserves to feel. At Self Solace Physical Therapy, Inc. we know what is at the heart of health and wellbeing, and we see that those parts are often missing from other fitness programs. We want your fitness journey to have the most important elements at its foundation.
So, what are we fusing together? These classes are a one-hour experience in movement, meditation, and sound vibrations where you get the opportunity to bring awareness and focus inward in order to improve your physical well-being to help with issues such as stress, anxiety, fatigue, grief, tightness, tension, and pain. You will be guided into centering, breath work, grounding, meditation, stretching, core strengthening and many other nuggets of magic that will allow you to connect with your body at a deeper level. You will have the opportunity to try many of the self-treatment tools and stretches introduced in the Self Treatment Class Series as well as new tools and stretches that we don’t have time to fully experience during that series. Sound healing will be another facilitator in your healing as the gentle vibrations ripple into your cells as your entire system opens and elongates and releases what no longer serves you. You will leave this experience with greater awareness of your body, more flexibility, fluidity, strength, and a greater sense of wellbeing.
What is the difference between our Self Treatment Class Series and our Fusion Classes? The intention of our Self Treatment Class Series is to give you as much information as possible in the shortest amount of time to fill your toolbox for your home exercise program. It is all about educating you and giving you many different options that you can then choose from and then dedicate more time to on your own at home. It is the education that you need to create your own home program that you will love and stick with.
The Fusion classes are designed to give you a full hour experience of being walked through the elements of the home exercise program in the time we really want you to do them, in the most relaxed way, without you having to decide what you will do next, or how long to hold positions, or which tool to use with in-person assistance for propping and positioning. Each class is unique as we have more time to allow you to experience different stretches, tools, and ways of doing different self-care techniques. It is basically an opportunity for you to experience self-care in real time where your therapist gets to create the experience and guide you through.

- We recommend (but do not require) that you participate in the Foundations of Fascia (MFR Self Treatment Class Series) prior to attending the Fascial Fusion Classes.
- Likewise, we recommend that you follow the Foundations of Fasia (MFR Self Treatment Class Series) with the Fascial Fusion Classes.
- If you complete eight Fascial Fusion Classes you are eligible for one free class. This is our reward to you, for you taking care of your body with consistent self care.
- “What if I want to attend for one component of the class (i.e. sound healing) but do not want to participate in the other parts of class (i.e. strengthening or stretching)?” No problem. Meeting you where you are is our goal. If you want to attend but only have the energy or desire to lay comfortably on a yoga mat while the sound waves wash over you then you are welcome to do just that. And we will applaud you for listening to your body and doing just what feels right for you regardless of what others are doing around you.

Fluid Fascia
Yoga Classes
Fluid Fascia Yoga offers a constant flow of assessing and realigning of the body, mind and spirit within yoga poses, manual Myofascial Release, and breath. Fluid Fascia Yoga encourages development of one’s own emotional intelligence to release expectations, to stay in the present moment and create a nurturing environment. Fluid Fascia Yoga combines the teachings of John Barnes' MFR Approach®, the eight limbs of yoga and Fluid Fascia Yoga principles.
Fluid Fascia Yoga is different from traditional yoga, because regular yoga works towards end range or pushing past muscle barriers. Fluid Fascia Yoga engages the tissue restrictions by moving gently into the restriction through supported Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga postures. With gentle elongation, fascial tissue restrictions soften, and students are then able to move deeper into restrictions creating healing space. Classes are geared toward student needs through a series of therapeutic yoga poses combining visualization, breath work, unwinding, and rebounding. Students will gain awareness of their own healing and wellness.
Incorporating use of elongation, self-rebounding, self-hands-on techniques, breath, body scanning, savasana, and meditation.
Who can participate? Everyone is welcome. You do not have to be an existing patient to participate in classes. This is a wonderful introduction for your friends and family that are interested in MFR.

I am so excited about this new addition to our menu of resources to help you through your healing journey. As most of you know, I am a Mama Bear when it comes to my patients. I do not want you to go to just anyone for exercise until you are solid in your knowledge of your body, ability to find the FIRST barriers or restrictions within your fascial system, and are confident in standing in your power and doing only what is right for you, in each moment. I feel that while yoga as a whole is good, there is sometimes a pressure to push past your limits when taking classes.
It has been my dream to offer yoga, (and other stretching and strengthening classes) under our own roof to help you start to practice the principles of MFR and applying them to other forms of exercise. This offering of Fluid Fascia Yoga allows us to do just that! To give you an opportunity to practice what you have learned, while being closely watched and supported and guided by a yoga instructor who is keeping the principles of JFB MFR® at the heart of the practice of yoga, who will not only NOT push you to your limits, but instead gently and lovingly encourage you to listen to your body and those first little restrictions and to be confident in staying in that place that is optimal for your own healing, regardless of what anyone else in the room is doing. In doing so you will find that your flexibility and strength will improve in amazing ways.

Sound Healing
Classes
This class is an opportunity for you to simply relax on a mat in a comfortable position as the healing vibrations of sound cascade over and through you. At Self Solace Physical Therapy, Inc., we recognize that sometimes life throws you challenges that put you into fight, flight, or freeze, cause you to be depleted, or simply not able to participate in a regular exercise class or program. We all need a place of safety where we can just be and allow our central nervous systems to downregulate, or in other words to simply calm down, and relax.

I have recently lost a friend who was so much more than a friend to me. Her loss has devastated me. She has been here for me for almost my entire life (from just before my 6th birthday) and I was there when she had to go. Being there for her passing was one of the most heart wrenching but also one of the most powerful things that I have ever experienced. I knew that in my grieving process that I have to allow myself to just be. To rest when I need to rest. To cry when I need to cry. I also was very aware of the fact that part of my light went with her when she died. The good thing about light is it can be replenished. I believe that when life challenges you in such a way that your light is dimmed it is imperative that you rekindle your own flame by doing things that heal your soul, bring you joy, and make you feel good. It is hard to do when you are at a very low level of energy or light. One thing that helped me was to allow myself to just be as the waves of sound poured over, around, and through me. The sound was created by a loving presence with the intention of sending waves of love and healing throughout the room. I want to give that to you.
So in honor of my dear friend, Molly Tuter, we are creating a Sound Healing experience that is simply that. It will not be tied to any of our other classes that we also offer with Sound Healing. It will stand alone with the opportunity for you to come and simply be.
Molly was really much more than a friend. She was my soul sister. My protector. My hero. Many looked up to her for her basketball skills. I looked up to her for so much more. She was a person that took care of everyone around her. She was humble in her good works and most people did not know of the good that she did in this world.
Because of who she was and what she represented, the only way for this class to truly honor her will be for you to pay for this class not with money but with random acts of kindness. You will be asked to write down on a piece of paper an act of kindness that you have done in order to participate in class. We will put it in a container and at the end of the year we will read the contents and know that her good is still radiating out in all directions in this world. Her light will continue to shine through you, and her light will be the reason the sound waves will resonate through the room and into you.
The number that Molly wore proudly on her basketball jersey was 24. We will do 24 classes, 1 per month for 2 years in this way to honor Molly Tuter.
